Filipendula 'Rubra Magnifica'
Filipendula 'Rubra Magnifica'
'Rubra Magnifica' also known as Queen of the Prairie. We call it the fairy floss plant and its one of those that should be more popular. Once established, they are far more drought tolerant than overseas sources make them out to be. Here in our 40 degree+ peak summers it receives no more water than all of our other garden perennials. It is a superb plant, a clumping deciduous perennial with attractive deep green and 18cm wide serrated leaves and long stems growing 180cm high with fragrant corymbs of fluffy, rose-pink flowers during summer. It tends to attract pollinators and is best in a cool to temperate area with full sun. Cut back to ground level in winter for fresh new shoots in spring. A tip to growing these is to make sure they are in mulched and damp soil in their first season so they can get their roots down deep, they look better and become more drought tolerant the older they get.
Supplied trimmed back in 450ml pots.
